A letter from June · Co-founder of June & Louise Charleston
The button you undo after Sunday dinner was never about you. It was always the waistband.
The good pants wait on a hanger for company. The comfortable pair lives on the bedroom chair. This is a letter about one pair of corduroys that does both jobs: the Clark, $49.95 in our Anniversary Sale.
It happens at the table, somewhere between the second helping and the coffee. Your hand goes under the edge of the tablecloth, finds the button, and lets it go. Nobody sees. You have had practice.
You know the rest. The belt that moved one notch and stayed there. The good pants on the hanger, belt already threaded, waiting for company. And the soft old pair on the bedroom chair, the one you change into the minute the last car pulls out of the driveway.
Nobody complains about this. That is what makes it worth a letter. You say nothing, undo the button, and half assume the trouble is you. Meanwhile the pants you like best are the ones nobody outside the house ever sees you in.
That button was never a verdict on you. Most men's pants close with a button and a belt. You try them on standing in front of a mirror. Then you sit down to eat, the way people do, and a waist held shut by a button has nowhere to go. A waistband that cannot give is not a fact of life. It is a choice somebody made.
So is the idea that comfortable pants and presentable pants must be two different pairs. So is the rule that a grown man's closet comes in navy and khaki. We do not believe either one.
The Clark is our answer: corduroy with wide ribs you can feel under your thumb, a straight cut, and a hidden elastic waist with a drawcord you set yourself. It looks like the pair on the hanger. It wears like the pair on the chair. Fall is here. These are six reasons we think you will stop reaching for that button.
Your hand will know this fabric before you do
Start with the fabric, because your hand will. The Clark is corduroy, with the signature ribbed texture: wide ribs you can see at a glance and feel under your palm when your hand rests on your knee. Look at the Purple pair on the bed, seen from the back. Two back pockets, a small label on one of them, and those ribs running down the leg. Corduroy has been a fall and cool-weather classic for generations, and it has character without making noise about it. If you worry that comfortable pants look flat and tired, this is the answer. The texture does the work. Nothing about it apologizes.

Really comfortable pants. I like that they have a little more room through the legs without looking baggy. The elastic waist and drawcord are also really convenient. I have been wearing these a lot on weekends.

These fit really well. I usually have a hard time finding pants that are comfortable around the waist and still look good, but these do both. The texture is a nice detail too.

They look like the pair you save for company
Here is the fair worry: an elastic waist sounds like sweatpants, and that is not what you want to be wearing when company is coming. So look at the man in the photograph, standing in the Light Green pair with a white T-shirt and white sneakers, hands in his pockets. What you see is a straight cut and a refined, structured look with nothing sloppy in it. The elastic is hidden, so it does its work without announcing itself. He is not dressed up and he is not dressed down. He is simply dressed. These are pants you answer the door in, sit down to dinner in, and stay in afterward.
★★★★★
Bought these mainly because I wanted something comfortable for everyday wear. They are easy to move around in and do not feel stiff at all. I ended up wearing them much more than I expected.

I really like the relaxed fit. They are comfortable when sitting for long periods and still look pretty clean. The drawcord makes adjusting the waist really easy.

This time the waistband adjusts to you
This is the heart of it. The Clark has a hidden elastic waist with a drawcord, so the waist gives and you decide how snug it sits, before dinner and after. For size, go by the inches on the Size Chart, not the letter on the tag. Waists run from 28 for the S to 40.9 for the 4XL, every one elastic. A Medium measures 29.9 at the waist and 40.9 long; a 2XL, 36.2 and 43.3. Lay a pair you own flat, measure, and compare. Between two sizes, take the larger and let the drawcord do the rest. If we are both wrong, reach out within 30 days for an easy return or exchange.
A whole day without once thinking about your pants
The real test of a pair of pants is not the mirror. It is the car seat, the bottom shelf, the porch steps, the long sit after supper. The Clark is cut relaxed and roomy through the legs, with a straight cut and the freedom of movement an ordinary day asks for: in and out of the truck, and down on one knee to look under the sink. Look at the man in the photograph, walking in the Purple pair with one hand in his pocket. That is the ease we mean. The best thing a pair of pants can do is let you forget about them. That is what the room is for.

Nice pair of casual pants. The material has a bit of texture to it which I like, and they look more put together than regular lounge pants. Good for everyday use.

These have become one of my regular pairs. Very comfortable and easy to wear with pretty much any basic shirt. I especially like the room around the legs.

When did you last pick a color because you liked it?
Men's pants are usually sold in a handful of safe colors: navy, khaki, black. Safe is fine. But at some point safe turned into a rule, and nobody remembers agreeing to it. The Clark comes in eleven: Gray, Blue, Khaki, Light Blue, Light Green, White, Black, Green, Brown, Purple and Pink. If you want the Khaki or the Black, they are here. But look at the Purple pair laid flat on the table, with a Blue and a Light Green folded behind it, and be honest about which one your eye went to first. That is the one. Pick the color you were never offered at the store. It costs the same as the Gray.

I was looking for something relaxed but not too loose and these worked out well. The waist is comfortable and the fit through the legs gives me plenty of room to move.

Good everyday pants. I wore them most of the day while running errands and never really thought about them, which is usually a good sign. Comfortable fit and I like the overall look.

Try them where it counts: at your own table
Ordering pants from a screen takes some trust. You cannot feel the corduroy from here, and you have been let down by a waistband before. So here is exactly what happens. Shipping is free with UPS anywhere in the USA, and we send a tracking number when your package ships. When the package arrives, run your thumb across the ribs, pull the pants on and tie the drawcord. Sit down at your own table. If they are not right, reach out within 30 days for an easy return or exchange and a full refund; a few exemptions apply. You are not deciding today whether to keep them. You are only deciding whether to try them.

The fit is probably my favorite part. They are roomy without looking oversized. The pants also have a nice shape from the waist down and the textured finish gives them a little more character.

Really happy with these. I wanted something I could wear around the house but also go out in without changing. These are comfortable enough for that and still look presentable. The adjustable waistband is a nice bonus.

A man should not need one pair for his comfort and another for his company. If pants cannot sit down to dinner with you, it is the pants that failed.
Why the Clark is $49.95 right now
We will be plain about the money, because you would be. The listed regular price of the Clark is $166.50. During our Anniversary Sale it is $49.95, which is 70% off, and that one price covers every size from S to 4XL and all eleven colors. The 4XL costs what the Small costs. For more than one pair, the checkout takes off more on its own, with no code: an extra 10% on two, 15% on three, 20% on four, 25% on five. Order the Brown, the Green and the Gray together and each pair costs you less than one pair ordered alone. Once you find pants you can sit down in, one pair may not feel like enough.
Now the honest part. $49.95 is the Anniversary Sale price, not the regular one, and we cannot promise it to you past the sale. We will not dress that up or put a date on it to hurry you. But fall is corduroy season, and it is already here. Every week you spend in pants you merely put up with is a week of it you will not get back. If that waistband has bothered you for years, the time to do something about it is while the price is this one.

Picture the next Sunday dinner. The second helping, the coffee, the long talk afterward. And your hand stays where it is, on the table, because there is nothing under the tablecloth it needs to fix.
When the last car pulls out of the driveway, you do not go change. The good pants and the comfortable pants are finally the same pair. The chair in the bedroom can go back to being a chair, and the pair on the hanger can take a long rest.
Fall is here, and it is corduroy season. The $49.95 belongs to the Anniversary Sale, not to the pants. Choose your color, check the Size Chart, and try the Clark at home for 30 days. It was always the waistband. Come see for yourself.
