A LETTER FROM A READER

THE ONE JACKET I THROW ON AND INSTANTLY LOOK LIKE MYSELF AGAIN.

On the leopard-print jacket that skims instead of clings, covers what I'd rather not show, and — yes — has a collar that never grips. The jacket I now reach for without thinking.

Olivia Vintage Leopard Print Denim Jacket worn open over a white tee and jeans, morning coffee on the porch
Olivia in leopard print — one jacket, and you look like yourself again.

I am 64 years old, and on cool mornings getting dressed had quietly become a daily negotiation. Everything practical hung on me like a man's work coat; everything pretty pulled across the middle, pinched under the arms, or looked too dressed-up for a tee and jeans before I had finished my coffee. So most mornings I gave up and reached for the same tired zip-up fleece.

It wore on me more than I let on. I had started to feel a little invisible in my own clothes.

Then a woman in my garden club here in Charleston kept turning up in the same leopard-print jacket, looking comfortable and quietly put-together at the same time. I finally asked her. She laughed and told me to read June & Louise's letter first, so I am going to let their words carry it, because they say it better than I could.

1A CUT THAT SKIMS, NEVER CLINGS

Olivia Leopard Print Denim Jacket, full length in the garden over jeans
Worn open over a tee and jeans, falling to the hip, moving with every step.

We cut the Olivia easy through the body on purpose, then let it fall straight from the shoulder in a soft line that skims the middle instead of gripping it — buttoned or open. It never pulls, and it never hangs like a sack — it simply moves with you.

★★★★★ I’m 62 and trying to have a little more fun with my wardrobe instead of buying the same basics over and over. This jacket was exactly what I needed. The teal color is beautiful, and it looks great with my everyday jeans.Diane M. — Franklin, TN

2A LENGTH THAT ACTUALLY COVERS

It is cut to fall to the hip and meant to be worn over a tee and jeans, so it stays easy in front and sits over the waistband and the hips — covered from a morning at the market right through to supper, with no riding up and no tugging it down.

★★★★★ I honestly bought this for the color combination. The blue denim trim against the teal leopard print is even prettier together than I expected. I wore it to lunch with a friend last week and she immediately asked where I found it.Susan R. — Greenville, SC

3AND YES — THE SLEEVES HAVE CUFFS. REAL ONES.

The denim-style cuff turned back once, gold-tone button showing. The line stays neat.

The sleeves are long and easy, with a buttoned cuff you can turn back once — when you reach for the top shelf, rinse a cup, let your bracelets show. They keep the line of the jacket neat, but mean you decide where the sleeve sits — down, or turned back.

★★★★★ What I like most is that it doesn’t feel like a typical animal print jacket. The colors make it feel fresh, and the gold buttons add a lovely little detail. I can wear it with a simple white shirt and feel nicely put together.Karen L. — Scottsdale, AZ

4A COLLAR THAT FRAMES WITHOUT GRIPPING

The denim-style collar, lying open in a soft V, with room for a thin gold chain.

The denim-style collar lies flat and open at the neck in a soft V — the part most jackets stiffen or button up to the chin by mid-morning — with nothing gripping at the throat and nothing to fuss with. Open without looking undone, and easy over a plain white tee.

★★★★★ I was a little hesitant about ordering something with such a bold print, but I’m glad I did. The relaxed fit is just what I wanted, and I love that I can wear it open over a plain top. It makes even my simplest outfits feel more interesting.Patricia W. — Columbus, OH

5A PRINT THAT GETS NOTICED — FOR THE RIGHT REASONS

Five jackets from the Denim Jackets collection folded on a wooden table, the Olivia top right
Five from the Denim Jackets collection, on the kitchen table — the Olivia top right.

The leopard print is done with a gentle hand — teal and blue, fading into solid teal ribbed panels below, a choice rather than a default next to silver hair and a gold chain. Nothing loud, nothing fussy — the kind of print that goes with your jeans, your black pants and a plain white tee.

★★★★★ The denim collar and cuffs are my favorite details. They give the jacket a casual feel, so it doesn’t look too dressy or overdone. I can see myself wearing this for years because it’s such a fun change from my usual jackets.Linda B. — Charleston, SC

6IT FITS THE BODY YOU HAVE

We make the Olivia from a size S all the way to 3XL and cut it relaxed on purpose. It is meant to fit the woman — not make the woman fit the jacket.

★★★★★ This jacket has so much personality! I paired it with dark jeans and ankle boots, and the whole outfit came together without much effort. I especially love the textured teal panels at the bottom. They make it stand out in a really nice way.Michelle T. — Austin, TX

WHY THEY'RE CLEARING IT NOW

They priced the Olivia at $199.95, and it became their bestseller this fall at that price. But June & Louise turn 25 this year, and the women behind the shop wanted to give something back — so every jacket is going out at less than a third of that.

I ordered mine that evening. It arrived a few days later, folded in tissue in a kraft box with a June & Louise Charleston card inside. I have reached for it more than anything else in my closet since.

I do not usually write things like this. But I spent too many cool mornings feeling plain and a little invisible in my own clothes — and this one jacket quietly gave me back the pleasure of getting dressed. If that sounds like you, I hope you find your size before it clears.
